Columbus Ranked as 21st Most Lesbianish City in the US

By: Walker

Columbus is regularly recognized as a gay mecca by various national media outlets. In 2011, we were named a Top Gay Travel Destination by NewNowNext.com, and ranked #1 as the “Up and Coming” location by GayCities.com.

While we assume that those rankings are all inclusive to the LGBT community, AutoStraddle.com does not. And they decided to compile a list of the Top 21 “Lesbianish” cities based on culture, political cimate, gay rankings by other outlets and by visitor analytics to Autostraddle.com.

The good news is that Columbus made the list. The bad news is that we were all the way at the bottom in 21st place. The publication highlighted the Womyn’s Festival, Stonewall Columbus and a handful of other resources.

What do you think of this ranking? Is Columbus a good place for lesbians to live? Is the LGBT culture here worthy of a higher ranking on this list? Share your thoughts with us below.

  • Scout and Rivals had Columbus ranked #17 while ESPN had us at #24.

  • I can’t speak to the quality of life for lesbians as I’m not one but I do like it that the word ‘lesbianish’ made it into a CU headline.

  • I think we need a moratorium on city rankings.

  • John – I agree with you on the Forbes.com rankings (and the other usual suspects) but I’m a fan of when smaller publications do these types of more specific lists.

  • I agree with Walker re: the specificity of this poll.   It recognizes that the LGBTQ community is dynamic and varied, with needs and desires that are just as varied.  What’s good for the goose isn’t always good for the gander.  But, based upon personal experience and compared to experiences in other cities, I don’t agree with the conclusion.  Great potential, but not being realized.
