A new report compiled by Abodo.com reveals the best cities in the U.S. for job seekers, which Columbus ranks highly in across multiple job sectors. The study looks at five rapidly growing career areas, including Community and Social Services, Computer and Mathematics, Health Care Practitioners and Technicians, Construction and Extraction, and the collective group of Art, Design, Entertainment, Sports, and Media jobs.
While Columbus doesn’t make an appearance in the top 10 for Construction jobs, it places highly in all other categories: #7 for Community & Social Services, #8 for Healthcare, #9 for Computer & Math and #10 for Entertainment.
“One surprise on this list could be Columbus, which even at the #10 spot shows a robust location quotient of 1.11,” states the report on the Entertainment job category. “The city, home to both Ohio State and Columbus College of Art and Design, has emerged in recent years as an art and fashion mecca. In fact, Columbus employs more fashion designers than any city in the country not named Los Angeles or New York City.”
The methodology behind the study evaluates information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Department of Labor.
No other Ohio city placed on the lists for any of the evaluated job sectors. The top cities across each individual sector include Philadelphia (in two categories), San Jose, Houston and Los Angeles.
“It’s clear that opportunity is available in major cities across the country,” said Sam Radbil, Sr. Communications Manager at Abodo. “Whether you’re a Millennial looking for your first job after college, or a Baby Boomer starting a new career, it’s important to know where to look for the fastest growing jobs in your industry and in your city.”
