The Columbus Metropolitan Library is no stranger to national acclamation, so it should come as no surprise that CML has just been named the 2010 Library of the Year by Library Journal.
“This is one of the highest honors a public library can receive,” said Patrick Losinski, Executive Director of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. “We strive to provide the most valuable and relevant services for our customers, and they truly support us and the work that we do.”
The recognition comes with a $10,000 cash award for the Columbus Metro Library, a featured cover story in the June issue of Library Journal, and a gala reception at the American Library Association Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. on June 27th, where the award will be formally presented.

That is fantastic and deserved. Despite budget cuts, the library has improved in doing what they do in a better fashion. Congratulations to the staff and administrators for the great job.
One item in the article piqued my interest – in 2007, they finally went to floating circulation. For years, I had wondered why they didn’t (remembering a whole field of math called Markov chains which work in modeling exactly this) and had wondered if they had changed over without ever remembering to ask.
I was glad to pay my user fee today and will be happy to vote for the upcoming levy.
A.
Congrats! The library truly does a great job of providing a resource the entire community can benefit from. Time after time they have the book I want and send it to the library closest to me. And the staff are always polite and helpful. +1 voting for levy
