Columbus Mega Summer Weekend 2008 - Vol. 11

Columbus has multiple festivals going on this weekend including The German Village Society’s Oktoberfest (located at Genoa Park this year), the 43rd Annual Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival, and the Hot Times Festival at Parsons & Main. This is also a Gallery Hop Weekend, and additionally you can find the Art VS Art show going on at Junctionview this Saturday.

Additionally, the Columbus Food & Wine Affair takes place tonight at the Franklin Park Conservatory, and Wild Goose Creative is holding an event called “Two for Tea” this Sunday.

And while these events don’t take place until next Wednesday, it’s worth mentioning that both Slice of Columbus and the next Slow Wine event are worth checking out.

Have a great weekend, Columbus!

A few years back Oktoberfest was held in the parking lot of the Africentric High School. On Saturday night the crowd was low because of inclement weather. It was a cold and rainy night, but the polka bands were hot. Since the crowds were small, every beer purchase received a complimentary upgrade to a jumbo Warsteiner. So there I was, fueled on polka and beer, when in the polka tent walked a man with a glorious display of the finest chicken hats this side of the Atlantic. I had to have one. I was short on cash, but managed to borrow the money to make perhaps the most irrational purchase of my life. To remind myself of this, I break out the chicken hat every year and head down to enjoy Oktoberfest.

If it doesn’t rain, the hat will come out of storage and head down to Genoa Park tonight.
