Columbus is Forbes’ 19th Best City for Singles 2007

Another year, another singles poll from Forbes. Columbus ended up slipping from the #11 spot in 2006 down to #19 in 2007. Still not a bad spot on the list.

Who knows how they actually come up with this data, but the areas we scored well in include Number of Singles, Culture, Online Dating, and Cost of Living Alone. The areas we need improvement in include Job Growth, Nightlife, and we actually placed dead last in “Coolness Factor”.

That’s right. According to Forbes, Columbus is less cool than Milwaukee, Baltimore, Indianapolis, Buffalo, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and Cincinnati.

I think, sometimes, that they just pull names out of a hat. Baltimore?!? Pizshaaah! When I lived in D.C., we called Baltimore Bore-me-more.

    I know why we slipped.

in 06 I was in a relationship, in 07 I wasn’t. This is completely my fault!

I hang my head in shame!

I think you have it backwards… if you’re single in 2007, that means the singles’ market got 1 person larger! Your additional availability should be helping for 2007!

    :D

that’s ironic, I almost had to move to Baltimore, but plans changed. Huzza to C-bus who is lucky to be continued to be graced with my beauty and wit!

So, I guess this is where I’d make some cheesy segway into asking the forum to hit me up for a date. But I gots me too much class for that.

I’ll keep my twisted love-lust to myself :)

“Coolness Factor”: To determine coolness, market research company Harris Interactive conducted a poll of adults from across the U.S., each of whom was asked, “Among the following U.S. cities, which one do you think is the coolest?” Data was provided by Harris Interactive.

I am sure most (or nearly all) of the adults polled has never been here, of couse this may change since Skybus can bring them here to raise our “Coolness”. We need some kind of city/state/national ad campaign to bring more visitors here similar to the ads cincy has been doing this past summer. (I will suggest this on the 2012 site) This poll proves the fact that we are not on the national map.

Overall despite the drop, we still placed well. Denver went from 1 to 16! Ouch.

Maybe the city should hire a consultant to make the city cooler. That would probably bring in more young professionals too.

I think a quick scan of craigslist will reveal easily why we’re among the best for singles. I also find single men and women to be so friendly and open whenever I go out. They are also some the smartest people I’ve come across in any city. With perhaps a couple of exceptions, I am also being completely sarcastic.

Is it a god thing columbus has a high single population? I wonder if they calculate the STD rate also?.

I think he meant that he was on the prowl and therefore hurting the odds for the rest of the single guys.

Wonder how much the “single” which I’m assuming is synonymous with “unmarried” numbers being so high has to do with CBus being the second highest per capita gay community in the country combined with a no-gay-marriage state.

    Just a thought.

I think they meant the ‘Single’ at Wedndy’s. Being that the ’single’ was invented in Cbus.

The huge student population may boost the number of single folk. I have been to more funerals than weddings.

Not to be offensive, but, I think the name mightymighty may have something to do with that. I’m really sorry, I thought you were a guy as well. My bad!

these polls are so lopsided and should by no means give the impression that columbus isn’t a good place for singles. to think we’re not cooler than cincinnati and kansas city, both of which i went to and don’t care to go back. i’ve never been to milwaukee or buffalo, but come on, cooler than the cbus, give me a break. i’ll even defend denver on this one. i’ve been there once and, even though i hate to say it, i think it’s a cooler city than the cbus, but to drop it from 1 to 16 is ridiculous. that just shows you how lopsided this poll is.

If you feel this way, and, believe me, I feel the same way; shouldn’t we also dismiss these polls when Columbus is beaming with high numbers? :?
