THE COLUMBUS DISPATCHA popular Downtown restaurant operator will open a new concept in the glass-walled restaurant being built as part of the $43.9million Scioto Mile park planned to open next year. The owners of the Columbus Brewing Co. restaurant have agreed to open the venture in July, concurrent with the opening of the Scioto Mile.

Columbus Brewing to run Scioto Mile park restaurant

Sounds like a good fit. It is more Champp’s than fine dining, but it will appeal to a wider audience. It will be nice (and feel safer) to have more people around in the evening. I hope they are required to have decent evening hours.
A really good fit. I always think they have great food at a good price point and I can now imagine myself having a Columbus Pale Ale on the Scioto Mile next summer…
Yes it is, my only concern for this and any project on the Scioto Mile is the stinch from the river, i would hate for that to be a problem for anyone dining on the patio, as long as they clean the river up so it doesnt stink, this restaurant and the Scioto Mile could be awesome.
Good to hear this is official now, though it seemed to be a shoe-in for the space 3 months ago. And I’m still of the same mindset that I was then:
I think a restaurant that focuses on quality without the high pricetag would be a good fit. Or something with a flexible menu along the lines of Due Amici or Barrio where one person can go in and get a small plate and drink for $10 and another person can go in and go a little more full service for $50.
So to that end, I think CBC’s new concept will be a good fit with their price points outlined being on the more affordable side. I guess if you’re in the area and want to go a little higher-end, there’s already M over at Miranova.
Looking forward to checking out the new CBC riverfront patio! :D
Seems like things are finally starting to shape up in Downtown with the new tenants moving there so far. Hopefully more will commit to downtown throughout 2011/12.
Looks good. This will make downtown/arena district prime for a mini-microbrew crawl with Barley’s, Elevator, and soon CBC within walking distance.
I think it would be good for foot traffic if Food Trucks parked in the area at lunchtime.
PS – There is a plan to address the river smell.

Note that CBC brewery is owned and run by different people than the current restaurants, which purchases beer from the brewery just like any other restaurant/bar.
Good to know about the Biofilters.
Hopefully come July I will be able to walk down to the mile and enjoy a CBC ale during sunset. Now I only have 8 months to find a place to walk from…

That doesn’t change the fact that the restaurant puts out great food at a good price and the brewery puts out some kick ass beer! (no I’m not associated with CBC)
It will be really nice when the park is finally done, it’s been a long time coming.
I’m hoping this new restaurant and the park itself will showcase some of downtown’s hidden assets (like the cultural arts center) to a wider audience.
