Columbus Ranked 14th Best City for Beer Drinkers

Columbus is closing out 2015 with one more list/ranking update right at the buzzer. The city just landed recognition as the 14th best spot in the US for beer drinkers, based on a new study by SmartAsset. While the ranking isn’t the highest on the list, it shows a significant amount of growth from a decade ago when the total number of local breweries in Columbus could be counted on one hand.

When looking at the individual metrics, Columbus scored well in total number of breweries (tying for seventh place) with 23 in the list. Though that stat’s importance drops significantly when looking at breweries per capita, indicating that the city could add many new breweries in the future before a saturation point is hit. Columbus also scored 9th place in the total number of bars per residents.

Surprisingly, Portland Oregon (Third place overall) was beat out by Portland Maine, which topped the list in first place. Cincinnati was the only Ohio city to crack the top 10 (10th place), while Cleveland landed further down the list (18th place).
