    17.50 a ticket, and they’re presenting it like it’s a bargain.

    interesting.

I don’t know….you get a two special tickets and 2 hats!! I don’t care much for the hats, but the special tickets will be cool additions to my stub collection. Also, I can’t think of any other live sporting events I’ve attended in the last few years that got me reserved seating for less than $20. I know this isn’t the family night for $30 you’re hoping sticks around (me too if they want me to go more than once a year), but it’s just a week and it’s a special one, you know?

I’m definitely in. Can we plan a CU meetup 2 years out or is that asking a little much?? :)

Last game at Cooper Stadium + first game at Huntington Park = Not your average ticket pricing

I feel like I shouldn’t have to explain that.

  • Well, you have to explain it because there’s never been “special ticket pricing” before in the old Cooper, not as long as I can remember. This includes batter’s cap nights, dime a dog nights, firework nights, etc.

    General Admission was General Admission.

Sorry, but this doesn’t bode well, IMO.

  • Great idea!

    I know I’ll be there.

Uhm… this special event IS half in the old Cooper though.

    :P

I realize that…that’s kind of my point. General Admission at the OLD Cooper is jumping 300% before they even leave…

  • i have not been to a clippers game in YEARS. i even had free tickets this year, and i forgot to use them :?

I went a couple times last year, it’s still a blast. It’s cool to me that I remember seeing Darryl Strawberry play there, and Deion Sanders actually charge a fan in the stands in person…crazy.

  • oh shi-

i COMPLETELY forgot about neon deon getting arrested. good times

LOL…time will tell Walker, and I’m not going to argue the future with you. I’ve said before, I have zero faith that ticket prices will remain at 6 bucks at the new stadium or that parking will be affordable/reasonable. I think they will take away an evening at the ballpark for the low income families who lived in the area of the old stadium, and I don’t like that.

I hope I”m wrong…but I don’t think charging a 300% markup on the last game there and a 300% markup on the first game at the new stadium builds a lot of faith myself.

  • It’s totally unreasonable to think that the prices of tickets can or even SHOULD stay where there are in the new neighborhood with the new stadium. And the angle about low income families going to the game is so overplayed. I would imagine most of the low income families in Columbus don’t go to see the Clippers: they probably watch TV, go to the bargain movie theaters or go to the bar to watch a game.

Inflation alone would dictate that ticket prices need to be higher, not to mention updated facilities. Last time I checked, alot of people in Columbus (and on this board) want to make Columbus a more enticing place for visitors and sports fans. This means building an outdoor venue for sports other than the Horseshoe, and that’s where we can really talk about low-income families not being able to see a game, ever.

I understand that there is a rich history at Cooper stadium, but that isn’t stopping the Yankess from building a new stadium, didn’t stop Baltimore from tearing down a stadium that was built in memorial to veterans of foreign wars, and shouldn’t stop Columbus from tearing down the Cooper. If loyal fans truly care about the team, they’ll go to a game no matter where it’s played. And in the meantime, downtown can attract people that want to do something other than watch hockey, go club hopping and see a concert in a big theater with the ballet or the symphony.

I’m pumped about the Clippers and this new deal!

    1. Why is it unreasonable when the repeatedly stated they wouldn’t be upping ticket prices, for this very reason, during the entire process?

    2. You obviously haven’t gone to Cooper all that often, that’s exactly who’s there.

  • I generally agree, a dramatic increase in pricing at the new stadium would be a bad thing. But my question is, does this deal indicate such an increase?

The tickets in the deal work out to $17.50 a piece, for reserved seats. They type of seat alone that’s being offered is already more exepensive than the base $6 general admission price. Then you factor in the cost of the hat. I have no idea what the production cost of something like that is, but for the sake of discussion lets say $5.

So you have a $7 ticket, $5 hat, that’s $12 right there that does not represent any increase over the existing cost of attending a game.

That means, that there is a $5.50 premium attached to each ticket, or what it really is an $11 to attend opening day in the new stadium.

I apprecaite core’s point, that Cooper Stadium has never had special event pricing before. But I would argue that this is a unique event for the team. The publicity generated by the new stadium has been through the roof, and I’m sure demand for tickets to the park, at least initially, will correspond.

Rather than viewing this as a way to jack up prices and shaft the loyal fans, I see this as a way for the team to manage demand for the tickets so that the loyal fan can be assured of a reasonably priced seat and not end up paying a scalper an inflated price for what will undoubtably be a hot ticket.

This is fine with me. I don’t expect to get in for free. Overall, it’s still a pretty cheap outing IMO.

  • I hope that isn’t actually a picture of the stadium. If it is nationwide e continues to bore the viewer to death with their architecture.

  • Anybody interested in splitting season tickets this year? I’d be interested in rounding up a group of four or five and splitting two seats. That’s still plenty of games (15 to 18, depending) for a decent price, and we’d have decent priority to renew for the new park.

PM me if you’d be in. I’ll wait until I have four interested parties before I follow up.
