City officials solicit names of problem bars
Published: Monday, July 14, 2008
Columbus City Council is beginning action that could lead to last call in some local bars. Council and City Attorney Richard Pfeiffer have initiated the annual process to object to the renewal of liquor permits in what city officials describe as “problem establishments.”
Each year, council makes formal objection to the renewal of liquor permits held by some establishments throughout the city. The establishments are so chosen by evidence that they have operated outside the law or in conflict with the public good.
The city is soliciting suggestions from local area commissions, civic associations and block watches, said Andrew Ginther, head of council’s public safety committee. Names of problem bars can be directed to Assistant City Attorney Natalia Harris by phone, 614-645-4980, or via e-mail at nsharris@columbus.gov; or by contacting Ginther’s aide, Kenneth Paul, at 614-645-2931, or kcpaul@columbus.gov.

Is this suddenly the fucking Soprano’s? Bullshit! Standup guys obey the law. He doesn’t. He’s a douche. “honest living” requires that he follow the law, BTW.
It’s called civil disobedience. The concept has been fairly well documented throughout our nation’s history. Read up on it.

Are you really trying to compare Dick Allen to people like John Adams and Rosa Parks?
Obviously not….but I figured at least someone would find the humor in it.

A downtown night club will be closed for two weeks after the city ruled it a public nuisance, 10TV News reported.
Major Woody’s Night Club, located on Front Street, has been the scene of several fights and a shooting, police said.
According to the city, the bar violated state liquor laws and posed a danger to the public.

I just think it’s interesting that most of the people complaining about Zeno’s allowing smoking wouldn’t be caught dead in Zeno’s if it was smoke free and was giving away free steaks and beer. They basically just want to piss in their cheerios.
Live and let live…
This is a comical defense…
So they’re blaming the construction of Liberty Place?
Condos and apartments have existed in peace with bars looooong before Major Woody’s. I haven’t heard any similar complaints about After 5, Tommy Keegan’s, BW3′s, High Beck Tavern, or any of the other bars that existed alongside housing.
What residents have objected to is shootings, stabbings, riots, and underage drinking. Period.
I’ve even heard that CBR’s started closing down early to get their patrons home safely before they could be exposed to the craziness that ensues when MW’s gets let out. It should tell you something when other bar owners are more worried about the safety of thier patrons than selling a few more drinks.
I’m surprised the Dispatch article didn’t mention the fact that a “pillar of the community” and BD Commission Chairman, Reid Wasserstrom, owns the building and has continually refused to do anything about it. Someone at our neighboring building said that he tried to show Wasserstrom a tape of some street fights and he didn’t even want to watch the tape. Ignorance is bliss I guess.
Major Woody’s has only been the scene of A shooting?
That is total BS. There has been residential in that area way before Uncle Woody’s. Ludlows was there 1st and The Patio was outside of what is now After 5 (aka lotus, gibby’s). There was also Bannana Joe’s which was kinda shady too. I used to live right above The Patio. While it was LOUD AS HELL on the weekends, there was never shooting or violence. The neighborhood really didn’t like the noise and that contributed to the demise of the brewery district. I used to get petitions on my door to shut down The Patio anda Brewmaster’s Gate. I tossed them in the trash. If you want a vibrant nightlife at your door you have to expect noise. I am kinda getting off track, but my point is there has always been plenty of residential in that area before Uncle Woodys….
it’s about time they shut that place down. and i think it’s funny that every club that that dj rishbone goes to they end up closing down cuz it gets too thugish. heh
I just saw he’s djing at Club Ice now. I’d go along with the “Rishbone” curse, but i think that place was already thuggish.
yea it went downhill the moment it changed from “global” ;)
so, on major woody’s website it only says:
“Thank you for all your LOVE & support.
Major Woody’s has been closed.”
sounds like something good finally came!! Neighbors can finally sleep in peace for now :)
