City Center Liquidation Sale Starts Today

By: Walker

City Center will be closing down on March 5th to prep the building for demolition as a start of the Columbus Commons Redevelopment. But starting today and running through February 28th is the liquidation sale from the building.

The sale will run today from 10am to 8pm and includes everything not nailed down, and some things that are: lighting, store fixtures, jewelry cases, restaurant equipment, tables and chairs, artwork, and plenty more.

More details can be found online here.

  • Wondering if I can get an airbrushed shirt commemorating the destruction of City Center?

  • I guess if you wanted to make the drive to Eastland you could get one.

Anyway, I’m wondering how many businesses actually left that much equipment behind. Could end up being some good deals to be found there for other businesses around town looking for new (old) fixtures.

  • I’d love to score that big chrome city center icon to hang on my office wall – if anyone stops by the auction let me know if there is one left!

  • I went today on my lunch and got a awesome painting on canvas. It is 30×36 and when I walked up to the guy that was taking offers I told him five bucks! He said ok so Cool art for five bucks.

ETA: Tons of restaurants left all equipment behind. I saw a guy clear a lot of Max and Erma’s out on the cheap. Tables, Chairs, Industrial Fridge and everything in between. I don’t think I would call it a auction more so just tell them what you want to pay and they will be ok with that. That is how it seemed to work I was observing other people making offers and stuff.

  • I’ve got to get an escalator for the house.

  • I saw a lady get a mahogany dinning table for 150 bucks ! Also many  other good buys.
I know some collect mannequins they have a lot of those you’re looking at 10 bucks.

  • We went.  The guy told us those statues near the fountain are worth 100k, and he received a bid for 70 something on them already.   Crazy!   I’m glad the artwork isn’t being left to go with the demolition though.

Lots of stuff there on the cheap – even extra escalator stairs available on the 2nd floor of Kaufman’s.   I was shocked at how much proprietary crap those retailers leave behind when they close shop.   Not Subway though, they even removed their walk-in refrigerators.

I also saw the largest elevator I’ve ever seen in the loading dock of Kaufman’s….like a bedroom!

The oddest part of the whole thing is going to City Center and having all of those stores open to the public again….

When Paige and Richard Garfield of Meigs County heard about a big sale at Columbus City Center, they gassed up their vehicle and headed out.

And they found what they were looking for at the long-closed Max & Erma’s restaurant: five sinks, several shelves, a rolling tray holder and a large kitchen counter with an attached can opener. The stainless-steel bounty set the couple back nearly $1,000.

“We’re redoing our kitchen, and I can’t see buying cabinets made of particleboard,” Paige Garfield said. “I know this stuff was not made in China.”

  • just got back. nothing but a bunch of junk…. if you need store fixtures or lighting theres plenty of it. tons of fire extinguishers too.  ive been  to probably 20 fixture sales and that had to be one of the worst. i heard it looks pretty much the same as it did yesterday. honestly unless you need lighting or store fixtures theres nothing “cool” or interesting left.

  • pixlfarmer, did you really buy an escalator? if you did, how much?

  • don’t fire extinguishers expire? Could you tell how long the ones there had left?

  • well i checked some of the tags. the yellow ones were good the blue ones were bad. they wanted 20 dollars for the smaller size… you can buy a brand new one at lowes, same size for 20 bucks. my point anne is dont even bother.

  • I was in City Center today! Everything is going!! I purchased two large plants for a buck! It was weird almost didn’t feel right walking in an out of each store and the backrooms.

  • The neat part is seeing how many stores were there that I forgot about Since they were taking down drywall covers. When they put those up it makes you forget what once was. BTW: Does anyone know what the name of the store was diagonal from the Center on the first floor? It had 3 levels Close to the Flaming Yuck.

  • Jacobson’s.

  • Cool, that is another I had forgot about.

The Columbus City Center officially closed its doors today, but it will open one last time this weekend to auction everything in the building.

Capitol South, owner of the City Center, hired auctioneers Cassel & Associates of Worthington and McCready & Associates of Dublin to handle the liquidation of everything left in the more than 1 million square foot building. Large items to be auctioned Friday and Saturday include the three-story clock tower from the former Macy’s and several bronze statues that stood near the first-floor fountain.
