The best way to get to know your neighborhood is to get out there and explore it in person. Or, as Columbus City Attorney Rick Pfeiffer likes to put it: “take a mosey”.
“Moseying is an expression I’ve used for decades,” said Pfeiffer. “It means getting out into the community, visiting neighborhoods, talking to people where they live and work, and finding out what is going on at the grassroots level of our city.”
The opposite of exploring a neighborhood in person would be viewing it virtually via YouTube, but that’s not stopping Pfeiffer from sharing his passion for local neighborhoods with a new online video series. The pilot episode tours historic Franklinton, with stops at the old Log Post Office on Gift Street, the new Orange Barrel Media headquarters, the old Bellows School building, and many others.
With daily duties that deal with code enforcement, abandoned properties, liquor permit violations and graffiti, Pfeiffer has long employed his “moseying” routine as a means to get out of his offices and into the areas where problems occur and assistance is needed from city officials. He has taken everyone from interns to judges along on rides, and now he’s decided to take a camera crew to be able to share his patrol with others.
