A new food truck opens Downtown for lunch today: Families Mobile Kitchen. Relocating from their spot in Olde Towne East, Families hopes to capture the attention of the Downtown lunch crowd with their comfort food menu.
That menu includes chili dogs, chicken wings, fried tilapia and homemade mac and cheese… but the standout item is their chicken & waffles.
Prices range from 99 cents for hot dogs and grilled cheese, up to $8 for their large “Real Urban Legend” which includes two large Belgian waffles and four jumbo chicken wings.
Families Mobile Kitchen is set up in the parking lot at the northwest corner of Gay & High Streets. You can follow them on twitter @FamiliesMobile or on Facebook for updates, specials and availability.

That sounds like serious yum to me. Has anyone tried these guys before?
Here’s a review from last year on Street Eats: http://streeteatscolumbus.com/2010/10/20/families-mobile-kitchen/
I’v seen this in Olde Towne when I am out working. Always wanted to try it.
why, oh why can’t it be around after 5 o’clock or Saturday/Sunday mornings? or better yet, just pull up and camp out in front of my condo building!
Any know the hours of operation?
Chicken & waffles? Are you sure Mildred Pierce isn’t running this?
The truck was nowhere to be found today at Gay and High : (
It was there about 1:30 today. I saw someone about 1:45 with chicken and waffles who was sad about the lack of syrup.
I got an email from them last night saying that they had a great day yesterday. It’s situated closer to the middle of the parking lot, between Gay & Long, so it’s not quite on the corner. Sorry for the confusion, Mark!
Bring the carts to the Fifth by Northwest neighborhood – there are lots of pockets that only have one or two restaurant options within walking distance!
Oscars01, Leslie’s Creperie sets up shop in front of the Twisted Vine from time to time, so do have at least one mobile food option in 5xNW.
But, I wholeheartedly agree. I’d love to see as many mobile food options in 5xNW as we can stuff in the neighborhood! I’ll even offer up the parking space in front of my house if anybody’s interested ;-)
But, more on topic, who’s eaten some chicken and waffles? I haven’t had the opportunity yet to try Families Mobile Kitchen. Who can review?
