We announced in March that Downtown Columbus would be home to a new “French Market” business this fall, but the location was left as a bit of a mystery. Today, business owner Yavonne Sarber officially confirmed rumors that Chez du Bon would be opening in the former Wendy’s location in the Fifth Third Building near the corner of State Street and High Street.
“Construction started three weeks ago and we’re still planning on opening around the end of October,” said Sarber. “We’re lining up our opening with the opening of the apartments at the Commons.”
The first residents of the Highpoint on Columbus Commons apartments are expected to begin moving into finished units in October and November. Sarber says that Downtown dwellers and workers make up the core of the customer base for Chez du Bon, including the future residents of 250 High and LC RiverSouth.
“We’re a little concerned with construction phase of The LC being right next to our other restaurant de-NOVO, but we’re working with them to make sure we don’t have too many issues,” she explained. “But we’re ridiculously excited about all of the development Downtown.”
Residents new and old will find a mix of retail market items by day and a restaurant at night at the two-story Chez du Bon. Sarber says that the concept hasn’t changed much since it was first announced, but they have secured an in-house florist, will carry coffee from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans (to compliment their house-made beignets), and will have a mini Snowville Creamery store located within the 5,000 square foot space.
Edit (10/09/13) – Chez du Bon has scheduled its grand opening date for November 15, 2013.
