As Columbus City Schools continues to work on restoring public trust, it will be making some interesting moves at its board meeting tomorrow night.
After the district acted to recall bonuses the district formerly awarded to teachers just two weeks ago, it is now announcing a new wave of financial awards for employees, both present and former.
According to the agenda, the superintendent recommends that the board award up to $3,000 each to a list of individuals, including one named Christopher Qualls from Independence High School. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because it was in the news frequently this past year: he was one of four principals whose employment was to be terminated by the district, following the attendance scandal.
According to 10TV, he resigned before employment termination back in March. So that bonus might come in handy.
According to the agenda, Columbus City Schools will be awarding additional funds ($455,000) in a program called the Performance Advancement System, which provides stipends to employees based on “improved student achievement”.
