2015 has been a big year for Columbus in terms of national rankings. We’re the third best city for Millennials, seventh least religious city, fifth fastest growing craft beer city, fifth best city for renters, sixth best city for creatives and the number one city for wage growth. Of course, none of that matters compared to the revelation that Columbus is the 8th best city for cat ladies.
The Seattle Times revealed earlier this week the results of a new report from national researchers Nielsen Scarborough that showcases the top 10 US cities based upon the population of single women who live alone with at least one cat. (Side Note: Columbus was also ranked the #1 city for single women in 2014).
According to the research, 7.5% of the Columbus population is composed of that very specific demographic. No other Ohio cities made the top 10 list — but it’s worth mentioning that list-topping rival city Portland continued to exert its dominance over all trends with a 9.9% market share in the cat lady population. Seattle, Pittsburgh, Kansas City and Denver rounded out the rest of the top five.
