The latest Downtown public artwork display was launched on Tuesday evening as the CAP UP project was officially unveiled. Ten storefront windows were converted into temporary sidewalk-facing galleries where local artists have installed three dimensional displays that celebrate 200Columbus, the city’s bicentennial.
In addition to Tuesday’s unveiling, prizes were awarded to the best displays as judged by a panel of jurors. Criteria for judging was based on quality of work, technical skill, appropriateness of space and inclusion of the 200Columbus theme.
First place ($1,500) went to Brian Reume for Then Now Beyond, second place ($1,000) went to Corey Aumiller and Dan Gerdeman for Time Tunnel, and third place ($250 each) was a tie between Nikos Fyodor Rutkowski and April Sunami for Wolf’s Ridge and My Home respectively.
The CAP UP artwork installation will be on display through the end of the year. The artwork can mostly be found on State Street, Broad Street and Gay Street Downtown.
