Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a newcomer to the scene, if you make your living as a local barista then you’ll want to check out the Barista Jam this Saturday at Cafe Brioso. Multiple local coffee businesses will come together to share knowledge with a goal of increasing the overall quality and camaraderie of the coffee shop scene in Columbus.
The Barista Jam is divided into two parts. An industry-only espresso workshop runs from 5pm to 6pm and includes tasting and evaluating coffees, discussion on blending theory, grinder calibration and more. Afterward, an Open Jam & Mixer runs from 6pm to 9pm. The mixer is open for the public to attend, where you can meet local coffee professionals and enjoy some tasty drinks. A latte art showcase will also take place around 8pm where baristas will demonstrate their artistic techniques.
Five additional Barista Jam events are expected to take place throughout the next year, each with a different focus area.
The Barista Jam takes place at Cafe Brioso on Saturday, June 30th. Cost to attend the workshop is $5, and the mixer is free. A donation jar will also be at the event to help raise money for Shawn Slivinski from A Touch of Earth. If you’d like to get involved in the event, or would like more information, email JJ at johnj@cafebrioso.com.
