BrewDog Officially Confirms Canal Winchester Location for US Brewery

When Scotland-based BrewDog announced earlier this month that they were expanding to the US by way of the Columbus region, they did not name a specific location for their new brewery. We heard from an anonymous inside source that the facility would be opening in the City of Canal Winchester, but the company would not confirm it at the time. Today, they’re making it official.

BrewDog’s US operations will be established in a 100,000 square foot warehouse in Canal Winchester, which will be completed and operational by August 2016.

“The people of Ohio have absolutely bowled us over with their enthusiasm, passion for beer and warm welcome,” said BrewDog co-founder James Watt. “Their reaction has been incredible, it’s awesome to know we’ve made the right choice with where to lay the foundations for our American home, and we’ll be throwing one helluva party to thank the locals for their support.”

The expansion represents a $30.4 million investment in the region, creating 125 new jobs. The facility will brew all beer distributed to the USA, and will also house a restaurant, taproom and a visitor center. The brewery is expected to produce over 85,000 barrels of beer in its first year, ramping up to over 850,000 barrels per year by 2019.

“Our international expansion plans have always been ambitious, but our intentions stateside are probably up there with some of the most ambitious, bombastic, exciting ventures we’ve ever embarked upon,” added Watt. “America has one of the world’s most eclectic, energetic beer scenes imaginable, and we’re psyched to be pledging allegiance to the craft beer revolution in the USA.  Planet BrewDog just gained a continent.”
