Bill Yerkes is at it again. After a brief hiatus from making traditional Napoli-style pizzas, Yerkes is again ready to put a pie in your face.
Yerkes is subletting Eleni-Christina Bakery in the evenings for his latest pizza enterprise, bonoTOGO (as in “to go”) — just in time for the Gallery Hop on Saturday. Although the place’s address is 641 N. High St., the storefront actually faces Russell Street, about 60 feet west of the main drag.
What a great idea- bakery during the morning/afternoon and pizza joint in the evening. Menus for this place were taped above the mailboxes where I live last night. Selection and prices look great. I hope it works out for them.

There will be another one this fall. The Gourmand and I thought it would be a good event to hold twice a year. ;)
Word!
This may have been the culmination of the CU/Bono relationship. There’s too much to comment on. The entire menu was ordered including the 15b, there may or may not have been multiple infused vodkas & wines, and nearly the whole neighborhood stopped by.
This is why summer nights in the city were invented.
As a “neighbor,” I’d like to say that it was one of the coolest things ever to walk out my door and see the street party going on in front of Bono as I headed over to pick up my pizzas last night. A place like this is a HUGE asset to the neighborhood for a variety of reasons (e.g., it adds a different and wonderful kind of depth, vibrancy, and flavor to the area), and anyone who would complain about the lively atmosphere probably shouldn’t be living downtown.
Does Spoon have a song about Bono’s Cherry Bomb pizza?
I think I just heard it on cd101.
That was a pretty f’ing cool evening. While there are some pizzas I love more than others, there is no pizza there w/o merit. I can leave the habanero vodka, but the lavender one is really fine.
And no nutella incidents.
The drinking stint got the better of me though – I passed out during Hellboy 2. Sorry Marcus.

I was too full to try much, but I did try the sauerkraut and kielbasa and it was damn good. Then I ran out of wine and left. Then I came back. Then everyone left.
One of my favorite reactions was Andrew’s:
(sip)… (pause)… (eyes widen, eyebrows go up)… (another pause)… (finally, politely:) “So… what are you planning to do with that?” (Implication: I bet it would get your bathroom sinks nice and clean….)
Others included that of Roland, who took a little sip, said “Wow!” — and then immediately slugged down the rest… Cyclist, whose expression never changed, not even a little… and Michael, who alone among the participants in last night’s festivities repeatedly asked for more. Well done, all.

But it was just so damn good.. the veggie flavours and the heat.. I’m pretty sure I’d not want it much hotter than that, but all in all, pretty tasty.
On the other hand I can leave the lavender. It was missing something that I couldn’t exactly place my finger on… Perhaps a little sweetness..

Oh yes.. I got a call at 8:30 AM from a far too cheery support engineer that I’ve been working with this week and it about killed me.
to quote “Uncle Willie” from the “Philadelphia Story”:
“This is one of those days which the pages of history teach us are best spent lying in bed.”
After the first sip of vodka I hiccuped for a few minutes. I tried another sip later and then had a bite of the cherry bomb. Damn…I was literally crying. Even the milk didn’t help. I’m glad I tried it, but it was a bit too intense for me.
I’m thinking that this vodka could be the cornerstone to a pretty amazing bloody mary…
I think I just heard it on cd101.
I think you mean John Mellencamp.

I’ll say.. he brought his iPod last night and I snapped a cell phone pic of it:

Ha! Well, I was in my 40′s when I was born, after all. I’ve been coasting along ever since.
This thread almost made me pop in some Mellencamp. Almost.
I will say this for him – at least his hits collection was released in HDCD – take that compressed file ipod generation. Whippersnappers.
And Michael, I think I left my ipod at Bono last night. I hope no one takes it.
I think I just heard it on cd101.
That was my thought when I heard that song today on the ol’ alternative station. I won’t even begin to speculate what it says about me that you and I had the same thought at the same time… heh.
This really cracks me up – and demonstrates my age :
The only song worth mentioning named ‘Cherry Bomb’ is from the Runaways which predates Mellencamp by 10 yrs. I had never even realized there was a Mellencamp song until this thread.
Sheesh.

When Anne & I were on our honeymoon in Hawaii we exclusively listened to the local Hawaiian radio station and this song was in heavy rotation at the time:
back on track…i think I became the last CUer to make it to Bono. we stopped over after the Food & OH wine fest last night. i can really add nothing to the conversation, so – Bianci such garlicky goodness, Pelligrino for $2 cheap, staff friendlier than a cult, ambience decidely urban. We shall return.
