bonoPIZZA Reopens Tonight in New Location

By: Walker

The much-anticipated reopening of bonoPIZZA is finally upon us. Bill Yerkes is opening the doors to the new restaurant at 1717 Northwest Boulevard (near the corner of Northwest and Chambers) starting tonight at 5pm. The new pizza shop is located inside of a carryout store on the corner, and only seats around a dozen people at a time. Fans of the old Short North location will appreciate the intimacy, but opening crowds should be prepared for a wait to grab a seat.

Bill stated that those who purchased the half-priced gift certificates earlier this year to help fund the re-opening will be able to pick them up this Thursday, or have them mailed out.

Hours of operation of the new location will run from 5pm to 11pm, Monday through Saturday.

Follow them on Facebook.

  • That’s awesome, can’t wait to get some pizza.  Are they taking credit cards now? or cash only still?

  • Still just cash but there’s an ATM in the adjoining convenience store if you forget.

  • No credit just cash, but there is an ATM in the entrance way.

I went last night and agreed that the Cabonara was a damn good pizza pie. I did not get my San Rolando fix, but that will come soon enough.

We were left for quite a bit waiting to even put an order in as a few people stood in line and the dining room was full. I am used to the art of the bono pizza so it didn’t hurt my feelings, but my girlfriend was a little bit antsy as she was hungry and this was no fast food joint. It did seem from my angle that the woman working the carry out had big eyes on the guests piling up in the doorway.  My thought was she was worried about blocking her sales and or theft. Hopefully this doesn’t have an adverse effect on bono. All in all I was thrilled to have had such a great pie for dinner, but will most likely only do take out as per the seating situation. I think they will sustain just fine as long as they can keep up with orders and add a touch of speed to the process.

  • Cool best of luck Bill!

  • Sounds like it is still best to get there right at opening…

  • Went tonight at 6:45 after getting my H1N1. I had to look it up on the crackberry as I was confused as to the location. Chatted with other customers while waiting for my takeout Carbonara, and even got a complimentary creme brulee (delicious- loved the cranberries on the side). The pizza was wonderful and well worth it- my 4 year old liked it too!

  • I was proud to be part of the first dine-in party at Bono!  I cannot express adequately my joy over eating pizza again. It was delicious, as usual.  I thoroughly enjoyed my little shot glass of dessert and am looking forward to crepes again someday.
I already have plans to return tomorrow night… is that disturbing or perfectly logical??

  • I still miss being able to walk to get my bono pizza, but the new location isn’t THAT far. I tried to go Monday but apparently skimmed over the “located inside of a carryout store” bit so I couldn’t find it (but now I know exactly where it is). Hoping to get there soon – can’t wait to try the carbonara.

  • Finally!  Good things come to those that wait!  I had almost forgotten about those gift certificates I ordered.  Bonus!  And Double Bonus – I take guitar lessons at Guitar House Workshop right on Chambers!  So at least once a week I can get me some bomb pie!  Cant wait till next Tuesday!

  • As a heads up to those who have late-night cravings, the convenience store closes at 9 but BONO keeps going until the ingredients run out.  You’ll have to go to the side entrance, but it’s a gorgeous view of the pizza oven!

  • Love their pizza but I couldn’t figure out why they would re-open in such a lousy location.  Then I read catnfiddle’s comment that it is close to their house.  Terrible reason for choosing a retail location.  The hours are touch and go?  Nothing more frustrating for hungry customer who drives there and finds out they’re closed because they ran out of ingredients.  Great pizza, may need help on business side.

  • @starman I talked to Bill yesterday and he said he was originally in that space years before. They rent the space and know the owners of the convenience store very well so I don’t think they are going anywhere for a while. They are working hard to make that place their own. Better location usually means higher rent and from what I deduced they are probably getting a deal on that space.

I went to Bono yesterday.  They are open 5-10pm every day except Sunday.  The convenience store is just called Corner Store.  It’s on the same side of the street as the Kroger.  I expected to just eat my pizza and leave but instead I sat there for 2 hours just shooting the breeze with them.  They gave out free taste tests of their creme brulee and it was fantastic.  The toffee was a nice buttery toffee tasting like a hard candy that you could tell was just fired and the custard was cool, buttery and creamy.  They were talking about eventually adding Caesar salads and maybe Rolando’s pierogies, but the pierogi thing is still hearsay.  I somehow came home with a sprig of rosemary and some test pierogies.  Bill’s wife is awesome!  I ended up ordering a veggie pizza with bacon on it and I could not stop eating it even though I was full.  Everyone on staff was super nice and wildly entertaining especially Bill.  Best pizza in Columbus.  Without a doubt!

  • Anyone have a menu they could post or point me where I could go to fine one?

This is the actual menu verbatim.

  • Finally got my fix tonight. One two seater table and a four seater. There are also four bar stools. Very neat atmosphere. Bill wore two hats, a cowboy and captain’s. I had the Carbonara, my wife the five cheese.

We missed this place and are glad it’s back. May Bill, Peggy and their staff have a good life in this location.

  • I remember at their old location they had a 3 for $15 pizza deal but noticed the new menu only has all pizzas for $10. Are the pizzas bigger? Just wondered considering Little Caesars just opened in Grandview down the street from it and they have their famous Hot-N-Ready pizzas for only $5! lol

  • I think it was 3 for 20 or 25 at the old location, I don’t remember it being 15.  And there is going to be a giant leap in quality over a little ceasars.  I haven’t been to the new location, but I don’t think much would have changed concerning quality (ingredients, taste, the way you feel after you eat it-not like you ate some lead followed by a helping of rocks-we always felt great afterwards)

  • I *finally* got myself to the new location.  Still bummed that the ShoNo spot that was a block from my home closed and now I have to drive there… but Bill and Peggy are still as hospitable as ever, and the wood-fired oven make the crust of the pizza absolutely delectable.

    AMAZING!

Been craving their food for a while, new staff has the same European style mentality that makes BonoPizza something we should cherish.

Hope everyone here will support them…  entrance is a little confusing, head to the left hand of the building and enter thru the (what I hear will be replaced) metal door.

B & P:  Glad I made the effort to come visit.  Appreciate very much your the great spirit I experienced tonight.  Stay in touch!

    - Jeff

  • After the 3 pizzas I devoured @ bono tonight I have to say – My number one regret of 2009 – not buying in early via the certificates
