Dear ColumbusUnderground folks,
Today Peggy and I made a decision to permanently close the bonoPIZZA operation on Russell Street. During our time there, we met many nice people and we loved our neighbors. So it took quite a bit of thought to arrive at this decision.
Kent Rigsby owns the bakery where Bono was located, and he was very nice and even helpful to us. But it became apparent that the bakery staff didn’t share his enthusiasm and the shared-space arrangement became untenable for us.
We believe we gave the Short North a neighborhood pizza joint with great food, reasonably priced, and served in the most fun way we could deliver.
We plan to reopen within four weeks in the Grandview Heights/UA area. Our new space will accommodate a wood-fired oven so we can bring you even better pizzas–and a few new surprises. The #2 pizza formerly known as the San Giorgio will heretofore be known as the San Rolando.
Thank you all very much for your friendship and patronage. Bono’s phone number 906-8646 remains the same, so feel free to call us for updates and directions.
We will be at CU’s 7th Anniversary party tomorrow night with our mobile wood-fired pizza cart and look forward to seeing you there!
Thank you all again,
Bill & Peggy Yerkes

5 pages and no Roland, number 2 jokes?
I’m going to have to go to Tigertree and order up a #2
I am pissed about this :-(
But only for my own selfish reasons. I wish the best two the Bono crew…and I will certainly still be a fan.
In fact, I may need to get some pizza this weekend before the big move. And I just had some Sunday night…
I am so sad to see you go! Went by on Friday for a fix and poof you were gone! I agree, keep the cart permanently in Short North.
I, for one, welcome this fine addition in or near the Bacon District.
Do we know where in grandview it will be?
There is a tiny space next to Tratoria Roma…..
Bill said it’s a surprise and would let us know as soon as he’s able to. ;)
I’m sick! That was the best 30 yard walk for a pie ever. I’ll miss the people that worked there more than the pies. I’ll still come see ya, but we live here just so we could walk to places like yours.
So sad to see you move out of the neighborhood. Maxwell the Boxer is going to miss sitting on the patio and eating his favorite pizza crust!
We’ll all pile in the car and trek out to Grandview. Cowtown Pizza is going to get a run for their money!
I ran into the two of them coming out of Short North Tavern, and they told me to pass on to all of you that they will be located at Chambers and Northwest Blvd and are looking forward to seeing all of us again.
Hmm… the bacon district may just have to annex that area.
Awesome location! It will be an easy bike ride.
Good stuff.
Any word on the specific date they’re going to be able to reopen, or are we still on the general “four weeks” timeline from the OP?
I cant wait for them to re-open. I’m craving a bianca pizza badly!
Isn’t this like 100 feet from Brothermarcus?
I know who just made it on my Christmas list!
Not the most foot traffic-y location, except for the nearby apartment community. Hopefully their quality will serve them well as a destination location.
If I could convince them to deliver pizzas to the Treehouse, my life would be complete.

I suspect Bill might find the occasionally anarchic vibe of the Treehouse to his liking.
I know who just made it on my Christmas list!
Just keep me on speed dial when you are ready for some Bono and/or drinking, and we’re cool.
This is RIGHT BY ME!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!! I can get it all the time now!!
if rose and thistle was only still open…..
english beer and bono… Come back to us rose and thistle!
