Columbus is a big city with lots of things to do and places to explore. Even long-time residents often have a checklist of places that they’ve never been, or sometimes never even heard about. When we ask our readers to share their favorite “hidden gem” its because we want them to share their passion and help these places to be enjoyed by everyone.

Frank Fetch Park has held the top status on our list for the past two years, but was knocked off by a different greenspace in 2012: The Topiary Park. Located behind the Downtown Columbus Metropolitan Library, the Topiary Park is a small oasis in a classical urban park setting. While it doesn’t have the bells and whistles of the newer Columbus Commons or Scioto Mile parks, the Topiary Park is quite serene, offering a great place to read a book, go for a picnic, or gather with friends.

The Top 10 Hidden Gems of 2012:

  1. The Topiary Park
  2. Frank Fetch Park
  3. Scioto Audubon Metropark
  4. Freshstreet/Double Happiness
  5. The Olde Towne Tavern
  6. The Columbus Bike Trail System
  7. The Green Lawn Abbey & Cemetery
  8. Studio 35
  9. Plaza Tapatia Market
  10. The Columbus Aquatic Center
