It’s only been officially available since October, but the anticipation stretches back to June when the news first broke that Yuengling would be headed to Ohio. And since then it’s gone on to steal the hearts of our readers as they voted it their favorite drink of 2011.

After Yuengling, locally produced beverages dominated most of the rest of the list as local micro-distilleries and Ohio breweries were picked as other favorites.

  • I’d like to think that Yuengling won the sprint by exciting local beer drinkers, but Barley’s and CBC consistently win the marathon by pleasing local beer aficionados.

  • boooooo

  • Though I’m not really a beer drinker, I do think Yuengling was definitely an accurate reflection of the beer buzz of 2011. It got a lot of people excited, and the real test will be to see how much staying power it has in 2012, especially as three more local breweries come online: Zauber, Born & Hoof Hearted.

All in all, good news for people who love an ever-expanding lineup of choices. ;)

  • Cheap beer beat OYO whiskey?  Sigh

  • I am thrilled that we at Barley’s are in such good company.

  • As a beer drinker, I agree it created a beer buzz in Columbus and the rest of Ohio. In fact, the bottle and can sales in Cleveland and Columbus were so strong, Yuengling was only able to release kegs to Cincinnati and Dayton on Oct 31st, bottles and cans delayed until early/mid November. Sales exceeded even their lofty expectations. That’s outstanding.
But again, as a beer drinker,  I think it falls far from the mark of being a “Best Drink” with so many other beverage options out there, beer or otherwise. I find it hard to believe Yuengling was voted #1 for taste and price point, but the reality is that it was. The people have spoken!
I find the rest of the list is mostly local, with local spirits, beer and mead on the top ten, and that’s inspiring. And yeah, 2012 is going to be a good beer year, with Four String products already on tap. I’m looking forward to the new year!

  • Never tried the Yuengling before, but I think that the Great Lakes Christmas Ale taste a lot better. I’ll have to try the Yuengling to see if it is really as good as you say it is.

  • Aw, c’mon! I was a 35 year Pennsylvania resident but would take most beers from CBC, Great Lakes, and even Christian Moerlein’s OTR over the Yuengling offerings any day. They may have price and novelty going for them, but certainly not flavor!
