Best CU Event of 2009: Pizza Grand Prix IV

By: Walker

Throughout 2009, Columbus Underground has hosted a wide variety of events for readers to attend. The one event that stood out the most and left a lasting impression on our reader’s poll was the 4th Edition of the Pizza Grand Prix, held on October 18th at Wild Goose Creative. The event was created by local food blogger CMH Gourmand who decided that the only way to settle the great pizza debate was to gather everyone’s favorite pizzas all in the same room at the same time and let the food speak for itself. The Pizza Grand Prix events are hosted twice per year (one in the spring and one in the fall) so two more can be expected in 2010. Stay tuned for an upcoming date announcement for PGP5!

  • Thanks CMH Gourmand, Drew, and Hungrywoolf for the awesome food events last year.

Both of these events were a good way for some of these pizza joints/food carts to get some spotlight time while getting people to run all over town.

  • CMH Gourmand, Drew & Hungrywoolf get my vote for most fun people in Columbus.

  • How about a pad thai grand prix for 2010? …. There are almost as many places serving pad thai as there are pizza. Well, not quite but I still think it would be fun.

  • Big props to CMHGourmand for the continued success of his PGP franchise, and many thanks to those who voted for/came out to our taco trucks event.

  • I have to echo Liz here… Jim, Bethia, and Drew organize some awesome events in Columbus. I love what they do, and I love any chance to work with them!

  • I agree with everyone else that the events and ideas coming from Gourmand and the Taco Truck Crew have made for a wonderful line-up for 2009. I thought it was funny that the top 2 events in this poll were really more of CU co-branded and co-promoted events compared to the traditional monthly happy hours, but I think it speaks volumes that what this trio are doing really resonates with people, and really leaves a lasting impression. I’m always happy to have even a small part in spreading the word on their events and being an attendee myself, but they deserve all the credit for the creativity and hard work in putting them together. :D Looking forward to what’s coming up in 2010!
