The category of “Best Civic Leader” was one that we decided to change up a bit this year, as we thought it sounded too political, and we were really hoping to see people honor people a bit more community-oriented from any type of background or cause.
So the category was changed to “Best Community Ambassador” and while many of the people nominated changed, the number one honoree remained the same: Mayor Michael Coleman.
In 2012, Mayor Coleman helped lead the charge to celebrate 200 years of Columbus, and politically stuck close to many of the basic quality of life issues including blight demolition, curbside recycling, street repairs and education reform. Oh, and he also mentioned once or twice that Columbus should have more swagger too.
The Top 10 Community Ambassadors of 2012:
- Mayor Michael Coleman
- Mike Brown
- Chris Sherman
- Timothy Wolf Starr
- Elizabeth Lessner
- Jim Sweeney
- Bethia Woolf
- Jeni Britton Bauer
- Nina West
- Johnny DiLoretto

Wow! Great list, super honored to be number 3 !!!
Wow, I am also really honored to be included on this list. Thank you!
Very proud to have been named alongside these amazing people. Thank you!
Cbus just keeps getting better. Humbling to be on a list with so many people I love, who can turn on inspiration but are never afraid to get their hands dirty.
Now… ahem… how we gonna make 2013 +1 more awesome?
Thank you all.
Everyone on this list deserves props, but HOW does it not include Michael Wilkos?!
Scott – Michael got quite a few votes… just not enough to crack the Top 10. ;)
