Columbus is home to dozens of annual festivals that draw millions of visitors out to experience art, music, food, people watching, and more. Comfest was at the top of our reader survey and takes home the title of Columbus Underground’s “Best Festival of 2008″.
This year’s Comfest saw some Saturday rain, but attendance was still high. There were several conversations started up debating the good parts and bad parts of Comfest (here, here, and here), but apparently the overall consensus is that this is still the best festival in town.
Second Place: Oktoberfest
Third Place: Columbus Arts Festival

Yep, but will it be a victim of its own success? Kind of like listing your favorite hole in the wall bar/diner/thrift store in a best of list, then when its been “discovered” and the intimate magic begins to diminish, until it becomes a crowded room and an institution that has forgotten its own history and roots, So it goes.
According to those links up top to the discussions on Comfest ’08, it sounds like a lot of people think it reached that point years ago.
Personally, I try not to get too jaded about anything. I say it is what it is.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Comfest continue to grow and become more and more of a national draw. I’m sure the folks who live right around Goodale would hate it, but bringing more people to check out Columbus is a-ok with me.
I hope it keeps raining every year like it has been, because there were definitely some people who were way beyond ripe hanging out down there. Rain at ComFest is just god’s way of saying that stinky hippies need something more than just the cover of patchouli!!!
