Best Bites: Tacos 2015 Winner: Phatt Taco

The biggest Best Bites event to date took place last night at Huntington Park, when 1000 guests took part in a tasting of the city’s best tacos from 20 different local restaurants. While the lines got a bit long during the peak dinner time hour, the night was filled with food, music, drinks and entertainment. Additionally, the event raised over $3,000 for Franklinton Gardens, a local urban farming nonprofit that grows and distributes fresh produce.

Each attendee was given a voting token to cast their vote for their favorite taco of the night, and once all votes were tallied, we’re pleased to announce that Phatt Taco was the fan favorite of the evening. Phatt Taco owner Jose Becerra prepared a black pepper carnitas taco, topped with charred onion and orange, and two sauces — a jalapeño jam and a habanero cream. The bite was served on top of a flax seed corn tortilla chip.

The Top Five fan favorite tacos of the night include:

    • 1st Place: Black Pepper Carnitas Taco from Phatt Taco
    • 2nd Place: Root Beer Braised Beef Taco from Condado
    • 3rd Place: Fried Fish Taco from from El Arepazo
    • 4th Place: Ahi Tuna Taco from Forno
