On March 24th, Columbus Underground will be hosting Best Bites: Pizza — a celebration of the city’s best pizza shops, pizza food trucks, restaurants and more. A limited number of tickets are still available, so be sure to purchase yours online before they’re sold out (update: tickets are now sold out!). To get your tastebuds watering, we’ll be previewing what each of our participating pizza makers will be showcasing at the event:
Romeos’s Pizza has a mission to be the #1 pizzeria in America. Founded in 2001 by Chef Sean Brauser, they tote many awards, locally and abroad, proving they may be on their way. Winning awards at Slice of Columbus five years in a row, they have established a place in the Columbus pizza scene since opening locations here in 2008. Their success may be due to their commitment to providing customers with the finest ingredients: hand cutting all vegetables, 100% Wisconsin cheese, and sauce made from sweet California tomatoes. They strive for each customer to have a great experience with their Pizza.
At Best Bites: Pizza, Romeo’s Pizza will be showcasing three of their specialty pizzas. The first, the Butcher Shop, is a meat lovers dream topped with Pepperoni, Sausage, Ham, Bacon and Crumbled Meatballs. Their second, the Great Ranch & Potato, features Italian Sausage, Caramelized Onions, Red Potatoes & Ranch Flavored Almonds atop their Ranch Bacon Sauce. Finally, for those looking to get their vegetables in, they will be serving up the Veggie Deluxe with Mushrooms, Red Onions, Green Peppers, Black Olives & Tomatoes.

Advance tickets to the event are $30, which includes unlimited pizza samples and a cash bar featuring Pacifico Clara beer, in addition to wine and a specialty cocktail. Tickets are now sold out. As always, attendees will also be able to cast their vote for their favorite pizza of the night, and the winner will be recognized on Columbus Underground as the Best Pizza of 2016!
Participating pizza makers include Bexley Pizza Plus, Mikey’s Late Night Slice, Borgata Pizza Cafe, Due Amici, Mama Mimi’s, Dewey’s Pizza, OH Pizza and Brew, Halwani Cuisine, Sbarro, Uno Pizzeria & Grill, Leone’s Pizza, Dahlia Bar & Lounge, BBR, Romeo’s Pizza, GoreMade, Cafe Napolitana and Plank’s Bier Garten. Additionally, Market 65 will be serving up samples of two of their featured salads: The House Italian and the “Green Machine”.
Ryan LaRose from the US Pizza Team will be on stage to showcase some of his pizza dough tossing skills while DJ Charles Erickson provides musical entertainment all night long.
A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to Neighborhood Services, Inc., a local charity that works to alleviate poverty and provide food services here in Columbus. The Columbus Underground Best Bites event series have collectively raised over $10,000 for local charities since August 2014.
