Now that I’ve offended everyone with my heathen tastes, I’d like to say that my favorite Columbus hibachi/teppanyaki joint is Shi Chi on Sawmill (in the same strip-mall as Trader Joe’s.)

The House of Japan’s at the various malls are consistent and tasty, yet overpriced and a bit boring.

The short north hibachi I lack a bit of experience with, but they have the neat wooden bench tables and 80s decor and did a good job of a parental birthday, sending an old japanese man out to pass out percussion instruments and render a bizarre song.

Fujiyama on Cleveland has amazing decor, including both a wooden bridge over a stream and cocktail tables in the bar made of aquaria with live fish inside. A subdued, colonial-japan influenced version of fern-bar tiki mixed with scareface-style 80s lavishness prevail. Too bad the chefs are bored central americans and the food is substandard. Waitressing is done by full-on geishas last I checked. An exotica time capsule in a shit neighborhood. (Like Otani, which is about three blocks away.)

I’ll probably check out Benihana shortly after it opens. Colonialism makes for good chow.

Well if that is what that glob of jiggly yellowish orange fat looking stuff that has no flavor then sure :D it’s effin nasty. But I always end up with it covering my food. But I am not sure of the name of it//

The nasty glob is called Egg Yolk Sauce. I don’t know how people eat it. It has such a bland flavor and strange texture.

nah I to have been there way too much for co-workers birthdays etc. It’s icky and I have never had a ok experience their. Also every time they ask if i want that nasty odd looking orange shit on my food I politely say no and somehow they miss that and put it on there anyway :cry:

The building and some aspects of the interior is definitely in not great shape, and when Kobe opened out at Easton, they raided away most of Fujiyama’s best cooks, but it’s still my favorite, and not just for sentimental reasons – the food is good stuff. Their salad dressing might as well have liquid crack in it, it’s crazy addicting.

If you want new & shiny, Kobe’s not a bad pick, but it’s also very freaking expensive. Ichiban and House of Japan aren’t bad either… I wasn’t especially impressed with Genji, but it was OK. “Japanese Steakhouse” in the Short North was pretty bland.

Besides the frustrations from the limited hours at “Japanese Steakhouse”, once I actually made it there when they were open, I was disappointed. I do give my approval to Kobe and House of Japan though, but I wish there was something like that closer to downtown.

I’ve never been there, but co-workers go for birthday parties and such.
