Benchmark Apartments Scheduled to Open This Fall

By: Walker

The Benchmark Apartments were announced back in November and are already fully underway. This new three-story 108-unit development will begin to open this October with a final completion scheduled for early 2013.

“This area has many apartment units with historically high occupancy rates,” said Benchmark developer Elizabeth Buchenroth. “Yet, there have been very few projects built in the past 30 years, so we saw an opportunity to offer apartment dwellers something new and fresh.”

Positioned at the intersection of Henderson and Kenny roads, Benchmark will offer 9 one-bedroom units, 90 two-bedroom units, and 9 three-bedroom units. The smallest units start in the $800′s for 625 square feet, with the largest units topping out at 950 square feet at $1495 per month. Community amenities will include a wi-fi lounge, fitness studio, grilling patio, green space, a dog park and a saltwater pool.

“The Henderson corridor offers great connectivity between Upper Arlington and Clintonville, with easy access to downtown or the University area,” said Buchenroth. “We think the location of the Benchmark is ideal for apartment living.”

  • A saltwater pool? That’s kind of a curveball for an apartment complex in Columbus isn’t it? Do any other new apartment complexes have saltwater pools?

  • Love the modern look.

  • The issue with salt water vs chlorine is all about the maintenance. Salt water costs more initially but is easier to maintain. These are just methods of keeping the pool clean by killing algea etc.

  • the saltwater pool is primarily an environmentally friendly choice. It’s also much less damaging to skin – better all around. It’s time Columbus discovered this, and the Bennchmark is first in the pool (sorry).

  • have people lost there damn minds? who on earth would pay 1500 for less then a 1000 sq ft… thats outrageous!

  • It does seem pricey for the just graduated crowd that is prevalent in the area.

  • Despite its proximity via car to a lot of things, I really do not think that is a very bike or pedestrian friendly area. I once tried to get over to Borders (rip) from the Olentangy bike trail and it was a nightmare, not to mention sidewalks seem hit or mostly miss. There are a ton of developments like this spread around that area which are a lot less expensive. I guess the fact this is new is what they are hoping will justify the rents. I don’t think the location merits it, especially considering the other new apartment complexes in the works.

  • those look horrendous. thats the best photo you could come up with? maybe the apartments could be a little closer to kenny and henderson. awful.

  • A Henderson Rd bike-ped connector to the Olentangy trail is going in this year. Kenny to trail via the existing bike ped overpass bridge.

  • You can rent a two bedroom unit right across the street at Governour’s Square for about 50-60% of the cost… I understand that a lot of people are into luxury apartments, but in the long run financially, it’s so much smarter to go with cheap rent–especially if you’re planning to buy a house within a couple years.

  • I agree with GentlemanGene, that’s very pricey for the area, considering the only “amenity” it has is a pool, but there are other complexes in the area that offer a pool for a lower price. Is it just me, or is every new build in town “luxury”? Is it impossible to build non-luxury and still generate a profit? (And while I live in that area, at rents that high and apartments that small, I would opt for living downtown, not along Henderson Rd.)
