The following discussion is about the excitement of the old Wendy’s building on High and Spring streets being converted into a much needed restaurant flavor – latin cuisine. The new restaurant will be called Barrio and will be run by Jeff Mathes who also owns Due Amici.

Awesome!!! I can’t wait for this!!!
I hope they spend a little money on the facade and make it look like it wasn’t a Wendy’s before. ;)
Is anyone on here a memeber of business first’s website so they can tell me what the rest of the article says?
will they still serve the “baconator”
perhaps “El Tocineador”
otherwise, i am sad they couldn’t lure a chain like Panera downtown. i’d rather have this new concept, but find their inability to lure something like that downtown a little disheartening for the market.
hopefully it turns out like Nacional 27 in Chicago:

or Cube Libre in Phili:

Two buddies and I were biking hardcore one day on the trails, and got up into downtown near that Wendy’s. My one buddy who was way out of shape had to use their bathroom.
I’ve always wondered what he did in there, because they didn’t reopen the next day.
On a serious note, I’d be very suprised if that building is big enough for what they want to do there. I’ve not seen a lot of double decker high end restuarants. Interesting.
Palamino’s in downtown Cincy is two stories and amazing.

yummmmm just went there over Memorial Day weekend. AWESOME
Great!
I have to wonder why Panera didn’t jump on that though. I think they would of made a killing during the work week.
I was just staring at that building last week remembering girl scout and school group trips to COSI that would inevitably stop at THE original Wendy’s shop before boarding the bus for home. It’s nice to hear that not only will the building be in use again soon enough, but it will be a local restaurant instead of a chain.
This is not going into the Original Wendy’s location on Broad, this is the Wendy’s that closed at the SW corner of Spring & High.

I’ve actually been in a number of 2-story high-end restaurants, including the aforementioned Cube Libre in Phili. Also think Happy Greek on campus or Rosendales, you go with a loft/balcony open to the dining space below.
this is about the old wendys at spring and high sts not the original wendys at broad and fifth. that building is still vacant :(

Don’t forget Handke’s in the list of high-end two-story restaurants in Columbus. I only mention it because he’s been around looong before Happy Greek and Rosendale’s.

Oops, thanks for the correction. Though it would have been funny to get excited about going to a new place just to end up in front of a vacant building scratching my head.
Anything to bridge the gap between Downtown and the SN/AD. I’m sure it’ll be a huge improvement. Now just another place that draws an after-five crowd near the intersection of Long and something on the corner of Gay and there’ll be enough energy there to attract more people Downtown. I love Tip Top, but I wouldn’t mind a couple more options nearby. While Elevator isn’t that far the empty stretch of High presents a psychological barrier. I never really think about it as an option.
I think RJ Snappers also has two levels.
Is Carlos from El Arepazo still in on the effort? (I couldn’t tell from the business first article) If so, I’m there on opening day.
Doesn’t sound like he is. But I don’t have an account to read the rest of the B.F. article. Perhaps we’ll see more details from a different news source. Or perhaps someone will stop in and ask Carlos? ;)

glad to see something there. seemed like such a great spot, and it is one step closer to GV. i was happy when la fagata opened in SN.
