Amanda Ellis has begun to take her Bakery Gingham from its 220-square-foot closet at 900 Mohawk St. in German Village south across Schiller Park to Thurman Avenue, where she’ll luxuriate in a 1,200-square-foot space.
The new shop is next to the Thurman Cafe, but don’t go looking for her there yet. Ellis doesn’t expect to complete the move before German Village’s annual Village Lights, scheduled for Dec. 7.
Ellis needs the space not only to handle walk-in customers who crave her cupcakes, but also to deal with wholesale work for the Kickstart coffeehouse in the Short North and Super Suppers in Hilliard.

Bigger cupcakes

Did we already love this little bakery in another thread? I LOVE this place, it is charming and the cupcakes are great, I especially appreciate their version of the Red Velvet. Along the way I became a Brown Bag fan, a sincere thank-you to Coremodels!
I took my brother there and he was very impressed. I was glad to hear the news that she was moving to a bigger spot, but I’ll miss the ease of the Brown Bag-Bakery Gingham combo. Nothing like following up their brisket with a cupcake in the next room.
Awesome! I am a huge fan of the peanut butter ones with chocolate frosting. And now it will be easy to show my bartending friends at Thurman love by bringing them cupcakes. (That means you Kevin!)
I can stuff myself at Thurman, as I am so prone to doing, and add insult to caloric injury by topping it off with cupcakes. Rad shroom + peanut butter cupcake = win.
Fantastic! :D
Oh no. It’s getting closer. At least with it five blocks from my house, there is some barrier to going there every day … what will happen when it’s right around the corner??
Holy turtles. I need to up my yoga schedule.
I like having it next to Brown Bag cause I can get desert after my awesome sandwich! But congrats on the upgrade!
