Back to School Supply Drive Through August 19

August is here and it’s time to start thinking of back to school. Columbus Underground is hosting a Back-to-School Supply Drive now through Friday, August 19, 2016. Our supply drive has supported hundreds of kids in need of school supplies to help be ready to learn.

Our wonderful friends at SafeAuto at Easton have already donated twenty-two boxes of school supplies and twenty-four backpacks to get our drive started! It was enough to completely pack my car!

Manon McGovern, Wellness Coordinator for SafeAuto, organized a supply drive at SafeAuto and was very happy with the results.

“We are so pleased this was so successful!” she said.

We hope this will be our largest drive yet! Keep in mind, this weekend, Friday, August 5 through Sunday, August 7, will be another sales tax holiday where certain items will be exempt from state and county sales and use taxes.

“Clothing items up to $75 each and school supplies or instructional materials up to $20 each will be free of taxes if purchased during this weekend. This includes a variety of items, from pencils and paper to pants and jackets to prepare for the fall.”

We will once again be supporting S.W.A.T. – So We All Thrive during this supply drive. S.W.A.T. collects basic school supplies: glue sticks, pencils, crayons, markers, erasers, notebooks, plastic folders, backpacks, and headphones, and gets them into the Columbus City Schools that need them most. More information on S.W.A.T. Full disclosure: Our food reviewer Miriam Bowers Abbott is involved with S.W.A.T.

Our friends at Shadowbox Live have stepped up and offered a special ticket deal to Schoolhouse Rock Live! to benefit S.W.A.T.! Details:
Bring your whole family to enjoy a great show AND raise money for SWAT.
Get $5 off of your tickets and Shadowbox Live will then still give half of your ticket proceeds to SWAT.
This offer valid for 2p, Sunday, August 7 or 14 only.
    $5 off code: SWAT
Call 614-416-7625 and mention the code when making reservations or input the code in the promotional code box and click apply when making reservations at: http://www.shadowboxlive.org/shows/school-house-rock-live

Supplies can be dropped off at our offices at 11 E. Gay St., Suite 300, Columbus, OH 43215, Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. We will also collect donations during the Best Bites Tacos event on Thursday, August 18th at Strongwater. Please contact me at [email protected] to make other drop off arrangements.

Please note: This is a collection drive only, we will not be distributing items and S.W.A.T. donates directly to schools. Please contact Volunteers of America’s Operation Backpack or Neighborhood Services Inc, if you are an individual needing supplies.

    Thank you for your generosity!
