THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The man chosen as America’s top chef last year will make Columbus the home of his first restaurant.

Richard Rosendale, who was the top chef at the Greenbrier Resort’s awardwinning Tavern Room Restaurant, plans to start a modern American restaurant, Rosendales, in the Short North by the end of March.

The space is in a former car dealership at 793 N. High St. Last year, it was being considered by Cameron Mitchell Restaurants as the site for a possible Southwestern restaurant.

Although Rosendale is not disclosing many details about his restaurant, he said, “It’s going to be something entirely different from what the region is currently offering.”

  • That is exciting news. Can’t wait to see what they will make the building look like. oh, and try the food. ;)

  • i was excited to read this in the dispatch last week. the article pointed out that columbus is quickly becoming the “go to” place for fine cuisine in ohio. cinci used to have that … but look at all the great places in columbus .. especially all the new ones. chef handke is a CMC, Chef Dean Max is one of the top 5 new chefs in america, and the mitchells empire .. this is awesome! and the more we get .. the more competitive the restaurant market will get .. and they will only get better and better!

I can’t wait to try this place … wish they’de give us some more information on the concept of this place.

  • I think this is very exciting. Its nice to see a chef as high respected as he is choosing Columbus over Cincy and Cleveland. If anyone has been to the site urbanohio.com they mentioned this on there too. But I noticed that hardly anyone has said this is great news for Columbus. Now I bet, although I am not sure, that if this chef were opening up a restaurant in Cincy or Cleveland instead of Columbus, that board would have probably lighted up with how great this is for Cincy or Cleveland. Just my two cents.

  • I’ve only read/posted on UrbanOhio a little bit, and nothing too recent… Is that site lacking on people from Columbus? If so, do you think that would have to do with our having other resources like the urban forums here, and Columbus RetroMetro?

I recently started reading & posting on Urban Planet which is an insanely busy messageboard, but really lacks Ohioans presence in their section. I searched their forum for “Columbus” and found 90% of it was about Columbus, GA! I figured it was because Ohioans are all over in the UrbanOhio forums where they can talk just about their state in a very busy forum.

    Weird….

  • hmm wonder when they start hiring
