Armond Budish floats urban revitalizing idea

Ohio House Democrats are looking to tackle urban revitalization issues and targeted tax credits for businesses that create jobs when they seize control of the House in January.
Those were two of the ideas floated Wednesday as the new House leadership team led by House Speaker-elect Rep. Armond Budish, a Beachwood Democrat, held its first Statehouse press conference.
“I believe we need a focus on urban revitalization, and we may create a committee to have that as its primary focus,” Budish said.

I would like to see more specifics on what it is he wants to do. This seemed pretty vague.
Also, I don’t know what the veteran bonus has to do with this. Maybe writer just threw it into same article. And about that…I appreciate all the veterans have done, but I don’t think paying bonuses to veterans makes a lot of sense. The amount probably won’t be life changing for the veterans or significantly help the economy. Why take on more debt (bonds) for this? What am I not considering?
Well, completely separate from the discussion of urban revitalization, I think the bonuses are extremely deserved, considering the military’s been using stop losses and extending tours dramatically for the last several years.
Yep. I wouldn’t argue they are deserved. Just don’t know if we can afford it. I missed any info on that somehow, and so I don’t know all the details behind it. I’m usually in agreement with Democrats, and my dad is a disabled vet to top it off, and yet this, I’m not understanding.
Right now there is the:
Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee, Alternative Energy Committee, Civil & Commercial Law Committee, Commerce & Labor Committee,Criminal Justice Committee, Economic Development & Environment Committee, Education Committee, Finance & Appropriations Committee, Financial Institutions, Real Estate & Securities Committee, Health Committee, Healthcare Access & Affordability Committee, Infrastructure, Homeland Security & Veterans Affairs Committee, Insurance Committee, Judiciary Committee, Juvenile & Family Law Committee, Local & Municipal Government & Urban Revitalization Committee, Public Utilities Committee, Rules & Reference Committee
State Government & Elections Committee and Ways & Means Committee.
Budish wants to break the Local & Municipal Government & Urban Revitalization Committee into two seperate committees.
The house dems have been doing a good job of having a coherant message for a long time. I’m more excited about Sen. Capri Cafaro moving up and taking the leadership spot from the HAPPLESS Ray Miller.
+1
Oh… my… gawd… I found this on the comments of the dispatch regarding the Budish article.

What we don’t need is more donkey socialist wealth re-distribution!!
“Those areas that are no longer economically viable need to go the way of the dodo. The miscreants that currently OCCUPY those territories will move on as soon as they realize there is no one left to support them.
Once the occupied territories are thug-less, bulldoze the entire area into the ground, then disinfect it and make sure its vermin free, both 4 and 2 legs. Then people will move back into those formally occupied territories and do what people do, namely create businesses and prosper. Those not so ambitious will soon follow to fill the jobs created by their more industrious counter parts. The cycle of life will always renew itself if it is not interfered with by government bureaucracy.”
- This is the world we live in? Somebody… please try to talk me down…
This comment is obviously refering to Ohio’s small towns.

Step one: Don’t waste your time with the Dispatch comment section. ;)
That’s a great example of unmoderated anonymous internet childishness left unchecked.
I seriously, and I mean seriously, doubt that an opinion like that is shared by many. Don’t get hung up with that crap.

i just wanted to hear that again.
I don’t even want to know what you think you heard.
Given the Mahoning Valley’s long checkered political history and the infamous string of corruption and mob ties running amongst Youngstown-area Democrats (e.g. Jim Trafficant, Marc Dann, etc.), I’d say the jury is still out on Cafaro. She’s intelligent and driven enough, but I worry that she’s also under the influence of the the same elements, if you will, that have plagued her home region for decades. She may have to overcome all that before she can do much at the state level, or else she runs the risk of it blowing up in her face and possibly hurting the Dems down the road.
She’ll need to follow more in the footsteps of Congressman Tim Ryan if she is to succeed.

+1. It doesn’t help that she’s a mob linked heiress, but that doesn’t preclude her from doing the right thing in the Senate.
My initial thoughts were to express relief that citizens of Ohio will not have to endure more embarrassment regarding lack of democratic leadership and fundraising at the senate level. You guys bring up some good reasons to be cautious about Cafaro. Yet I am optamistic. Anything is better than Miller. I may have to eat these words in the future. I really hope I dont have to though.
I am really looking forward to what Budish is talking about… More details!!

Yeah, I wrote the article and I was just throwing them in together.
Budish hasn’t been real big on specifics yet, but we’re trying to pin him down.
