As I wake this morning to another rainy April Columbus morning, I grab my phone to check emails and click on my daily app. No, I’m not the Weather Channel app to see if I am going be be wet all day… I’m checking NHL Center Ice because it is April and my once woeful Blue Jackets are on a blind date with destiny, driving for a spot in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Eight games remain in this compact season. Bookended by only two remaining homes games, it’s going to be an uphill battle but the this team has never had it easy. True hockey fans know that we are still very much alive, and most importantly we are riding a HOT goalie. Sergi Bobrovsky has put this once Western Conference basement dweller on his huge Russian shoulders and has carried us to the edge of the playoffs.
The entire team is getting healthy and starting to gel for the last rush. Our young & speedy “Wild Boy” Wingers Cam Atkinson and Matt Calvert have opponents at their heals as they are desperate to keep these future All Stars from getting every puck. The entire league has recognized the Blue Jackets as a big winner of the trade dealing with the addition of Marian Gaborick. John Davidson has built the future of the CBJ brick by brick, and the good news is that the future is now.
Every game from here to the end of the season will be fought like a Game 7. The drive begins tonight at Nationwide Arena. It’s not too late for you to join the battle. The St Louis Blues enter our home rink tonight and we will have our cannons locked and loaded.
