The Indianola Stroll returns for its second season this Friday. Inspired by the Short North’s Gallery Hop and Gay Street’s Moonlight Market, the Indianola Stroll is an evening where businesses stay open later in the evening, artists join storefronts for special shows, musicians wander the street, and many of the businesses offer specials. For Friday’s event, alison rose has partnered with poet Amy Turn Sharp to bring her poetry into the realm of visual art.
“Amy and I have been talking about collaborating for years now,” says Nicholas Nocera of alison rose. “With the unfortunate death of a mutual friend, I think that sort of lit a spark under us to stop talking about doing things and get out there and do it.”
Nocera and his wife Alison have always enjoyed the work of Turn Sharp, and appreciated her support of Art in Columbus. Combining their artistic abilities with her artistic words has resulted in fantastical imagery to inspire your every day.
“It’s been challenging coming up with visual interpretations of her words, but also really rewarding to see what came from the collaboration,” says Nocera. “She sent us a few poems to choose from and Alison and I came up with concepts and ideas that really worked together on all of them.”
The resulting imagery was perfect.
“It’s thrilling!” shared Turn Sharp when asked about the collaboration and how she liked seeing her words come alive visually. “I actually jumped around the studio the other day like a kid. I love it so much.”
For Friday, alison rose will have seven limited edition prints available, a few larger, ‘one of a kind’ pieces, and Turn Sharp will be visiting with her typewriter, offering poems on demand.
The Indianola Stroll takes place in the Clintonville area of Indianola Ave, between Weber & Midgard Roads, the third Friday of the month from April to October. For more information, visit Facebook/IndianolaStroll.
