If the young professional scene in Columbus has a mantra, it’s “attract and retain.” Mayor Michael Coleman, the Columbus Chamber and a slew of groups and agencies both officially and unofficially are working to show the world that this is a great place to call home. Of course, those of us who call Columbus home already know that. The challenge isn’t so much what this city needs, as what the world needs to know about this city and its enormous potential.
Which brings us to People to Watch. Every week in Alive we write about the local arts and music scenes, restaurants, fashion, green issues, Downtown development and networking groups that are connecting young professionals. Now we want to introduce you to the people who are actually making these things happen.
The following profiles of 11 current and future Columbus leaders and the things they’ve accomplished, and the things they aspire to accomplish are truly astounding.

Alive People to Watch

A heaping plate of hero cookies to all of you! It’s things like this that make me glad I moved to Columbus.
Yeah, I’m going to go take a photo today to mark the occasion. I’ve finally joined the ranks of the William Wegman Dogs, several beer bottles, and an older version of Fabio.
Walker, you look real pretty in pink.
He sure does! :)
That is one disturbing photoshop job…
it was a rush job on a whim.
if I had time, i could have made you Duckie and perhaps Liz into Blane.
someone cue the Richard Butler vocals please!
congrats guys!!!!
great list of great people.
congrats people! you all deserve a lot more, even
Where’s the applauding emoticon?
So far today I have seen two of the “People to Watch” within two hours of each other. One was Walker who actually said “hi” to me first, which means he is watching me.
And the other was Seagull Bags, he rode past my building on his bike and I shouted out my window, “HEY! I’M WATCHING YOU!” but I don’t think he heard me because of the bus going by.
So two already today… this “People To Watch” game is pretty easy.
Mike Reed’s GF is supposed to visit me at work today, does that count as a third?
Yep, I was riding the bus and spotted you coming out of the Weinland Park Kroger. I got off at 11th and figured you’d be passing me shortly, so I was indeed watching you.
Congrats, guys and gals.

Yeah, I bought some waffles and and razors! Thanks for keeping an eye out on me. You might save me from doing something stupid.

Good choices!
I haven’t seen any of the people to watch recently, except for Liz at work.
Either way – congratulations to everyone. I look forward to catching up on the articles at work tonight.

What is Walker sitting on? Sort of looks like a black box from an airplane? Is it symbolic? Walker is on top of the dark underground (represented by the black box upon which he is seated)? I think it is super. I think Walker should run the city and we can all help him—that is why it is important to be cool to each other!
Not really.
yeah, not really, but it looks like something top secret. These last few hours at work have been painful and I am reaching for entertainment.
I would like to think the box symbolizes my hopes and dreams.

I think box symbolizes many a guy’s hopes and dreams.

Speaking of which, that Kristen Jensen is hot.

Sorry, I meant to say THE box. Get your mind out of the gutter, Cyclist. :P
