5 Stops for Gallery Hop – November 2013

We recently interviewed new Short North Alliance Executive Director Betsy Pandora, and in that interview she said that she wants to bring a renewed focus on arts in the district, especially during Gallery Hop, which for many people is just as much about dining, drinking, people-watching and shopping as it is about the viewing of new artwork. Pandora says that she hopes to “emphasize arts and culture and continue to find creative ways for artists to engage in the neighborhood, for our small businesses to engage with artists, and vice-versa.”

One way the SNA is working toward that goal is a the first thing on our list for this evening’s Gallery Hop activities:

    1. View the Inaugural Exhibition at the SNA Exhibition Space

The Short North Alliance is now turning their meeting room into an exhibition space on a quarterly basis, starting tonight. The very first show includes the work of photographer Jon Cowley and will be open to the public from 4pm to 8pm tonight. The SNA office is located at 21 E. Fifth Avenue. 2. Check out The Table for Sneak Peek Preview

The Table is a long awaited and much anticipated new restaurant and charcuterie that will finally be open for a sneak peek during tonight’s Gallery Hop from 6pm to 10pm. Guests are invited to grab a glass of wine and take a tour of the new space prior to their grand opening.

    3. View a New Exhibition by Sweet Stella

Local artist Amy Neiwirth has a new show on display at Image Optical called Crystallized. The work is a departure from her normal food-based paintings and jewelry, and features bold and bright geometric designs. The reception runs from 7pm to 10pm. For more info, CLICK HERE.

    4. View New Work from CU Contributor Nick George

You may recognize Nick George’s name from the PowerPhilanthropy Friday series. His photography work will be on display at ROYGBIV tonight in a duo show with Jesse Kuroiwa. Jesse’s work explores the world of Japanese-American internment while Nick’s work is an abstract exploration of pinhole cameras and paper negatives. For details, CLICK HERE.

    5. Finish it off with dinner or a drink at Basi Italia

This hidden gem in Victorian Village officially turned 10 this year, so if you need a special occasion to celebrate tonight, you have one. Revisit the menu for some fantastic dinner options, or sidle up to the bar for an amazing cocktail.

What else are you looking forward to at Gallery Hop tonight?
