After three years in the making, the first phase of the Grant Park development in Weinland Park is wrapping up and phase two is scheduled to begin construction next year. While phase one focused on single family homes along the west side of Grant Avenue, phase two will include a more dense mix of apartment flats, townhomes and condos.
Plans from Wagenbrenner Development were recently approved by the University Area Commission Zoning Committee, which show 240 apartment flats and 12 apartment townhomes lining Grant Avenue along with 60 for-sale condo flats, 10 for-sale duplex units, 34 for-sale townhomes and a 42-unit residential building facing East Fifth Avenue. The site plan also includes a one acre park at East Sixth Avenue.
“It’s all market rate — mix of apartments and condos,” explained Wagenbrenner Development Partner Joe Williams. “We do not have renderings to share yet. We won’t commence construction until early 2017.”
The 21.5-acre Grant Park development sits upon the former industrial site of Columbus Coated Fabrics, which was cleaned up through soil remediation to allow for residential development. Once fully built out, it will be home to over 650 new neighborhood residents. Williams added that only one home from phase one of Grant Park is still under construction and remains for sale while the other 40 — including the model unit — have all been sold.
Meanwhile, Wagenbrenner Development continues to focus on new apartments and condos a few blocks south in Italian Village at their site of their Jeffrey Park development.
