Save the date! City Hop is turning ten this year! On Saturday, June 13th, the Columbus Landmarks Foundation will be hosting their annual downtown residential tour. This year, the hop will present a mix of available condo units in various developments, as well as a tour of “lived in” units for an inspirational look at the urbanist lifestyle.
Stay tuned for more City Hop updates as the date draws nearer. A few special events are being planned around this year’s hop to bring even more vibrancy and variety to the tour.

Funny to see all of the older City Hops of the past seven years all in one place. ;)
I do love this event. I didn’t realize it has been going on for 10 years already!
Yeah, it is hard to believe it’s been going on for 10 years already. I’m glad they’re focusing more on lived-in units this year and not just for-sale units. I’m not really interested in buying a new home right now, but I’d love to get inspiration from other people, especially to see how they adapt small spaces for good functional use.
Agreed that it’s good to focus on lived-in units. That should help add vibrancy versus the empty feeling from walking through a bunch of in-progress or not even started projects. Of course, it depends on why you’re there.
The older hops were more interesting because it was a bunch of makeshift spaces you had no idea existed or that people lived there. Now they’re mostly cookie cutter units, which are probably better to buy, but they make for less interesting hops -again, depending on why you’re there.
Press Release:
City Hop Celebrates 10 years of Showcasing Downtown Living with June 13 Tour of Homes
Columbus Landmarks Foundation Presents 2009 City Hop: “Loving Living Downtownâ€Â
Columbus Landmarks Foundation’s annual City Hop is a favorite mid-June activity for those interested in touring urban living options throughout downtown Columbus. To celebrate its tenth anniversary this year, City Hop will include tours of both owner-occupied and for-sale units, downtown residents to answer questions on the urban living experience, and activities and entertainment that illustrate the “loving living downtown†theme.
Beginning on Friday, June 12, a City Hop Kick-Off Party hosted by downtown residents will provide an intimate glimpse into 10 premier downtown locations. City Hop will continue on Saturday, June 13 with the walking tour featuring more downtown residential buildings nestled among the Columbus skyline and Nationwide Arena District.
“For City Hop’s tenth anniversary, we’ve partnered with the Downtown Residents’ Association of Columbus (DRAC) and other downtown residents who will show off their homes, answer questions about where they shop, dine and go for services, and provide a better understanding of the delights of urban living,†said Kathy Mast Kane, executive director of Columbus Landmarks Foundation.
As always, a major feature of City Hop will be the opportunity to tour new living spaces. This year, Columbus Landmarks will be showcasing North Bank condos, City View at 3rd, Sixty Spring, The Exchange Urban Lofts, Carlyle’s Watch, Neighborhood Launch, 8 on the Square, The Annex at River South and Ohio Lofts.
This year’s City Hop, being co-chaired by Donna Carstens, of Coldwell Banker King Thompson, and Kevin Wood, of M-E Companies, Inc., will be a self-guided walking tour of downtown living options. Pedicabs and Segway rentals will also be available during the tour.
The City Hop Kick-Off Party on Friday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m., starts with a reception followed by Progressive Parties held in three condos or historic homes in each of 10 premier downtown residential spots. Participants will sample appetizers, an entrée course, and dessert hosted by residents of the private homes.
Tickets for the Kick-Off Party are $75 each and include free admission to the City Hop tour on the following day. Individuals purchasing tickets will indicate their choice of location for the progressive party. Since space is limited, a maximum of 25 tickets will be sold for each of the 10 sites.
Advance tickets for both the Kick-Off Party and City Hop tour may be purchased by visiting the Columbus Landmarks Foundation Web site at http://www.columbuslandmarks.org or calling (614) 221-4508. Advance tickets for the City Hop tour are $12 for Columbus Landmarks members and $15 for non-members. A group discount is available in advance for groups of 25 or more at $10 each when all tickets are purchased at the same time. Tickets will be $18 on the day of the event. Tickets are not refundable. Great City Hop this year. Really liked seeing the finished units that were previously under construction at previous City Hops. The views from 8 on the Square and North Bank were incredible.
